Photos carry hidden details — the phone that took them, when, and often
exactly where. See everything stored in an image, then remove all of it
or only the parts you choose.
Your images are processed locally in your browser. They are not uploaded to our servers.
What hidden data is inside a photo?
Most cameras and phones write EXIF data into every
photo: the make and model, lens, exposure settings, the date and time,
and — if location services were on — the GPS coordinates
of where it was taken. Editing software can add more, such as an author
name or copyright notice in IPTC or XMP blocks.
Why remove it?
When you share an original photo, that information goes with it. A
picture posted from home can reveal your address; a document photo can
reveal the device and date. Removing metadata before sharing keeps
those details private, while the picture itself stays exactly the same.
Lossless removal, not a re-save
For JPG, PNG and WebP, this tool cuts the metadata out of the file and
copies the picture data across untouched, so there is no loss of
quality — then it reads the cleaned file back to check the
metadata is really gone. iPhone HEIC photos can be
inspected here; to clean one, convert it with the
Image Converter first. Need the file
smaller for an upload form afterwards? Use the
Image Compressor.
Frequently asked questions
What is image metadata?
Extra information saved inside the image file alongside the picture — the camera or phone that took it, the date and time, often the exact GPS location, and sometimes your name. It travels with the file wherever you send it.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is read and cleaned inside your browser on your own device. It is never sent to our servers or any other service.
Can I remove only the location and keep the rest?
Yes. Tick only “Location (GPS)” and the tool removes the coordinates while keeping the camera details, date and everything else exactly as they were.
Does removing metadata reduce photo quality?
No. For JPG, PNG and WebP the picture data is copied across unchanged — only the hidden metadata is removed — so quality is identical.
Which formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP can be viewed and cleaned. HEIC, TIFF and AVIF can be viewed; to clean one, convert it to JPG first with our Image Converter.
